“This is the third time now I ‘stumble’ over the winner, Konstantino. As a matter of fact, I met him in Burma in 2005, first in Bagan and then at Inle Lake. When we met the first time he was shooting… monks. We greeted each other briefly and recognized that we are both photographers. The second time around we met a couple weeks later; we said, ‘Okay, once is funny, twice is destiny,’ so we sat down for a coffee, only interrupted by some photogenic locals walking by, Konsantino jumping up and convincing them for some pictures. I realized there how passionate he is and I'm not surprised he won. I always wondered how his Burmese pictures turned out as we lost contact after that. His image well deserved it. Konstantino's story is so similar to many travel photographers I met. Many of them started another career, dropped out in their 30s, and followed their own journey and dream of exploring and traveling the world with their cameras. I know Paulo Coelho refers to another kind of people when he's mentioning his ‘warriors of light.’ But in my mind, it’s people like Konstantino, who, despite all the hyped-up problems we have in this world, share a more positive view of what this world is all about. So I offer congratulations not only to your magazine, but also to the right picture with the right winner at the right place.” — FELIX HUG, runner-up, 2007 ONE CITY, MANY DESTINATIONS travel photography contest |

All entries must be travel related and must be submitted as digital files. One person may enter multiple images.
All entries must be a genuine photographic image that is recognizable and not a completely created image. Digital retouching is allowed though restricted solely to simple color correction and cropping. Digitally manipulated images will be disqualified. For important size specification requirements, see the Official Rules, Terms and Conditions.
Don't forget, your image is contending for the cover, and you should allow for the CITY logo at the top (but please do not add it yourself—we'll take care of that if you win). Therefore, although horizontal/landscape-oriented images are eligible for the interior portfolio of runners-up winners, only vertical/portrait-oriented shots will be considered for the cover.
Contestants must affirm that submissions are their original work and that they are the holder of the copyright or that they have the right to copyright any and all photographs submitted to this contest.

Last year, CITY received more than 4,000 entries to the inaugural ONE CITY, MANY DESTINATIONS contest. New York–based photographer Konstantino Hatzisarros’ stunning image of two Burmese monks in a Mandalay temple won the coveted spot on CITY’s cover. The issue hit stands just as Burmese monks across Myanmar began their protests against the national junta government. Fifteen additional photographers, hailing from Vancouver to Brooklyn to London to Calcutta, were named runners-up. To view the winning 2007 portfolio, click here. |

Your journey will take you from Austria’s westernmost province, picturesque Vorarlberg, to charming Innsbruck in Tirol, the largest city in the heart of the Alps, to Mozart’s birthplace Salzburg to Austria’s buzzing capital city, Vienna. The Austrian Tourist Office will pick up the tab on the whole experience from round-trip airfare and rooms at luxurious hotels to gourmet meals at top restaurants. Here are a few art-, architecture-, and design highlights that await you on your tour (itinerary subject to change):
Vorarlberg/Bregenz:
This part of Austria is famous for its wood architecture, both old and new. Reflecting the sometimes rough landscapes of the Alpine Mountain ranges, the design of Vorarlberg’s houses is beautiful in its simplicity and functionality. The KunstHaus in Bregenz is another major sight, for its stunning architecture as well as the exciting art projects, which are all somehow integrated into the building itself.
Tirol/Innsbruck:
Zaha Hadid has become something like Innsbruck’s go-to architect, having designed not only the now famous Berg Isl Ski Jump Tower, but more recently, the stations of the Hungerburg Bahn (above), connecting the town center to the funicular that takes you all the way up to the mountain top.
Salzburg:
The first thing you notice about Salzburg is its beautiful Baroque cityscape. But when you look closer, you will find that modern architecture and modern art are an important part of Salzburg’s cultural offerings. Just have a look inside the Museum of Modern Art, perched on top of a hill neighboring that of the impressive Salzburg Fortress, and you will see that there is much more to Salzburg than meets the eye.
Vienna:
The capital of Austria is also its capital of art and design. Several renowned museums and museum complexes, such as the Museums Quarter, which has become the city’s cultural focal point, prove that Vienna is well on its way to achieving celebrity-status in the cultural world. An intriguing mixture of history and innovation creates a unique atmosphere that permeates every single aspect of this fascinating city.
