This Just In.... CITY Magazine was nominated for two 2007 National Magazine Awards today, both in the category of Best Photo Portfolio! The portfolios, Penitentiary, photographed by Kenji Toma in the Spring 2006 Fashion issue, and White Heat, photographed by Horacio Salinas in the Spring 2006 Travel issue, were nominated alongside portfolios by Annie Liebowitz in Vogue, Bruce Weber in W, and Michael Thompson in Details. CITY won the 2004 National Magazine Award for Best Photography. CITY has also been recognized this year by the Society of Publication Designers, garnering three medal finalist nominations and six merit awards. The National Magazine Award winners will be announced at a special ceremony May 1; the Society of Publication Designers will name its winners May 4.

The SXSW music festival hits Austin this week. Check out ex-Jane's Addiction front man Perry Farrell's Satellite Party (pictured), which play Stubb's on Friday, March 16. SXSW's film festival is also underway. Director Chel White was the recipient of the Best Music Video award for Thom Yorke's Harrowdown Hill, a must-see video (watch it here). If you're in town, music video director–turned–feature filmmaker Mike Mills' Does Your Soul Have a Cold?, a feature-length documentary on depression in contemporary Japan, screens March 16 at Austin Convention Center.
