SIGHTS & SOUNDS, BOTTLES & BITES
As Fashion Week rolls on, we're not sure whether our pounding headaches are from the catwalk DJs or the Budweiser Select lager and Lotus cocktails we're guzzling between shows. Though they're piercing our eardrums, we've loved the runway music so much we've compiled an iTunes iMix of some of our favorite tracks from the tents. The playlist features The Rapture and Soulwax, whose albums Pieces of the People We Love and Nite Versions, respectively, are available this week. There are also some old-but-gold sounds from The Clash, Nirvana, and The Ramones. Go here to download the mix.
Absorbing all these lagers and looks requires sustenance, and while we love our SoHo neighbors Balthazar, Lure, and the Mercer Kitchen, we're celebrating our first Mexican street cart, Calexico Carne Asada. Manned by three guys with barely enough room to grill, they serve up meat and vegetable tacos, burritos, and fajitas. Tell them the editors at CITY Magazine sent you, though we can't promise any free tacos. Calexico Carne Asada, look for the cloud of smoke at the corner of Prince and Wooster streets, SoHo, New York.
Burn off the calories with a 60 block walk north (actually, forget it, cab it) to the Conran Shop's new exhibition, WA-Japanese Style, opening Sept. 14. Creative Director Polly Dickens flew a solo mission to gather the best in contemporary home furnishings and accessories from Japan. From childrens' chopsticks to Scaloni display shelves, and items priced from $3.50 to $3,600, don't miss this opportunity to get a hold of some of the most exciting products Japan currently offers. Until Oct. 22, 407 East 59th Street, New York. 212-755-9079.
