The waves, the sand, and the cross-cultural art of surfing will all be examined in "Cut/Break," an exhibition curated by Everard Findlay opening May 28 at New York's Soho Grand Hotel. Directors Richard Kenvin, Britton Caillouette, and Jakob Daschek will screen short films at the opening party hosted by Stella Schnabel from 7 to 11 p.m. in the hotel's gallery, at 310 West Broadway. An accompanying photography exhibition will feature the work of Chris Gentile, Joe Curren, and longtime CITY contributor Martyn Thompson, whose interior photography can be seen in CITY's Design issue, on stands now. Each of the artists donated their work, and all the proceeds from the pieces sold will benefit non-profit SFOTE's current venture, the Laventille Bus Project, which will provide free sustainable school transportation to children in an impoverished area of Trinidad. For more information on the exhibition, go to www.cutbreak.net, or to find out more on the Laventille Bus Project, go to www.sfote.org.
