They may sting, but bees play an important part role in our environment. To help spread awareness about the alarming decline in honeybee colonies all around the world, Derrick Cruz of Black Sheep and Prodigal Sons has put together A NEW HIVE -- an art and design installation featuring bee-culture inspired sculpture, drawings, limited edition accessories, couture, curated antiques, lots of honey, and a few thousand bees. The exhibition opens July 9 at the Earnest Sewn flagship store (821 Washington Street) in New York and will run until July 31. Proceeds from the work sold will go to the establishment of new beehives in public gardens, educational programs spreading the importance of bees, and the art of beekeeping. Go to: www.anewhive.org
