GERALD FÖRSTER's LightYears project, excerpted in "Eyes of the World" (page 74), was born out of the photographer's desire to express communality among all humankind. To achieve this effect, Förster--whose work has been featured in the magazines Spread and Focus--took his subjects out of their various geographical contexts, bathed them in natural light, and centered his shots deep within their eyes. The collection earned the German artist the 2003 World in Focus award. Selections from the project will be exhibited at the Jenkins Johnson Gallery in New York this October.
