CITY MAGAZINE WINS
FIRST “ELLIE” AWARD IN BEST PHOTOGRAPHY CATEGORY
BEATING OUT VOGUE, DETAILS, AND MARTHA STEWART LIVING
New York, NY (May 10, 2004) — CITY
Magazine, the premiere launching pad for ideas, trends, and culture
for lifestyle elements: design, fashion, food, travel and more has
been awarded it’s first “Ellie” award in the Best
Photography Category, by the American Society of Magazine Editors
(ASME). Each year since 1966, the ASME has been the preeminent organization
recognizing the most exceptional consumer and trade magazines published
in the United States. Twenty-one magazines walked away with an “Ellie,”
(ASME’s answer to the Oscar) this year, a nod for being the
best in their category.
CITY Magazine was selected from hundreds of magazines for this prestigious
award. ASME nominated five publications for their dynamic use of
photography, photojournalism, and illustration to convey the magazine’s
editorial mission and identity. This year, CITY shared the nomination
in the photography category with Details, Martha Stewart Living,
Nest, and Vogue.
“This award and recognition by ASME is a tribute to the vast
talent pool of photographers, both established and soon-to-be established,
who are a valued part of the CITY family. The collaborative and
creative process is something very important to our magazine, in
that we strive to push the envelope not only with fashion imagery
but with food, design, and product stories as well,” said
John McDonald, Editorial Director and Publisher.
-More-
This is first ASME for CITY and the third nomination since launching
four years ago. This year CITY was also a nominee for Best Design,
up against Details, Esquire, Martha Stewart Living, and Real Simple.
In 2002, the magazine was nominated for General Excellence in the
Under 200,000 Circulation category.
CITY strives to bring its readers the cutting-edge trends that emerge
in urban centers. Setting it apart from other modern life-style
magazines, CITY utilizes the expressions of city life to speak a
new language. With imaginative graphics and commanding photography,
CITY translates the evolving phenomenon of urban living into a lifestyle
aesthetic that is sought after by readers everywhere. CITY’s
marquee coverage of design, food, and fashion in addition to its
unique perspective on art, books, music, and film provide a resource
of timely stories on stylish topics.
CITY has a sister publication, Desert
Living, inspired by a similarly fresh design aesthetic. Publisher
and editorial director John McDonald independently produces both
titles in addition to his restaurant ventures, which include the
celebrated Lever
House on Park Avenue, Lure
and MercBar.
